From Research to Practice - Scaling agroecological solutions
Agroecology Day is an annual event organized by the Agroecology Masters students at SLU Alnarp. This year’s event aims to bridge the gap between research and practical applications in sustainable agriculture. With the theme "From Research to Practice: Scaling Agroecological Solutions," the event will serve as a platform for researchers, students, practitioners, and industry stakeholders to exchange knowledge, showcase innovative agroecological solutions, and pathways for scaling these practices in real-world settings.
Agroecological practices such as diversified cropping systems, agroforestry, aquatic systems and combining different dimensions of sustainability in practice (environment, economic and social) are increasingly recognized as solutions for ensuring food security, biodiversity conservation, and climate resilience. However, scaling these solutions requires collaborative efforts, interdisciplinary approaches, and strong linkages between research institutions, farming communities and industry experts. This event will facilitate discussions on best practices, challenges, and opportunities in mainstreaming agroecology by leveraging scientific advancements, policy frameworks, and farmer-led innovations.

Ecosystem Resilience for Farm Resilience
This year, we have the priviledge of welcoming Pablo Tittonell in our panel discussion! Accompanied by Teun Dekker (SLU) and Benjamin Feit (SLU), and introduced by Aneth David (University of Dar es Salam), the symposium will focus on small-scale farm resilience by addressing issues in the favorisation of the soil microbiota, the implementation of pest control management and the general improvement of both the below and above soil biodiversity through farm practices.
A roundtable animated by Alnarp’s Agroecology Farm will then take place with other local small-scale farmers. This will be the occasion to get hands-on, concrete examples on how to bring a farming system towards more resilience on a day-to-day basis.

Lost in Translation?
Is Agroecology too broad a concept to be an effective tool in reality?

Since Stephen Gliessman’s first publications on the topic almost 40 years ago, the term “agroecology” has evolved and been taken up all around the world. In this webinar with Stephen Gliessman and the Agroecology masters students at SLU, we will consider the various dimensions associated with agroecology today and how it is implemented in different contexts. We will wonder why this broad and vast movement can be hard to define and easy to misinterpret. Looking to the future, we will discuss how agroecology is likely to evolve in the coming decades as it moves to the top of policy agendas worldwide. Join us for this exciting opportunity to talk with one of the most influential leaders of the agroecological movement.
